Otley Museum hosts a comprehensive collection of documents and photographs that tell the story of this Wharfedale community from prehistoric times to the twentieth century. The collection includes prehistoric stone tools and artefacts; an archaeological collection from the excavations of the Palace of the Archbishop of York at Otley; the Urban Development Archive; and an archive representing the Social History of Otley from the eighteenth century onwards. Foremost among its collections is the Otley Printers' Engineers Collection of industrial artefacts and archives. This is centred on the invention of the Wharfedale Printing Machine, and also records the history and development of the town's Victorian machine makers. The museum provides a fascinating insight into Otley's heritage and a key resource for both the amateur and professional researcher.
